DB House Shoes

Falling in older age can lead to increased use of medication and greater dependence on medical care. It is estimated that about a third of all people aged over 65 fall each year, with higher rates among those over 75. Against these alarming statistics DB Shoes Limited has been working in close consultation with medical practitioners in developing a House Shoe which is designed specifically at falls prevention within the home. Available now in EE & 4E fittings with a 6E fitting available from Spring 2006, the House Shoe offers the comfort of a traditional slipper with the increased support and stability found in a shoe. The use of a shoe stiffener gives increased ankle support and the inclusion of a removable sock allows for extra depth or orthotic insertion if necessary.

House Shoes use a shoe insole which reduces torsional flexibility and the hard wearing man–made sole makes these shoes ideal for indoor or outdoor use. Most older people who enter falls prevention programmes do so only after they have fallen, this House Shoe represents an important step in trying to prevent this from happening.
