Foot Orthotics

Foot Orthotics, Arch Supports, Shoe Inserts, Shoe InlaysSupports for your feet are called orthotics. They are also called arch supports, shoe inserts, and shoe inlays. These devices are designed to give additional support to the foot. Prescription orthotics to correct the way you walk or run, are usually provided by Podiatrists. If you want to know more about Podiatrists, please go to their web site - Australasian Podiatry Council.

Foot orthotics are also prescribed by Orthopaedic Surgeons, Rheumatologists and other specialists. Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists also may prescribe orthotics.

Foot orthotics are made from a number of materials depending on their intended purpose. They may range from very soft, full length devices to rigid three quarter inserts. Also, some people have an ankle – foot orthotics, when special support for your foot and ankle is required. You health professional will be able to give you the best advice.

The majority of footwear sold by Comfort and Fit ™ stores will accommodate foot orthotics, and our staff are expertly trained in fitting orthotics to footwear.

"Squeaking Orthotics: Plastic orthotics may squeak inside your shoes. The best way to eliminate squeaking of the orthotics is to put a liberal amount of baby powder inside your shoes before you put your orthotics inside your shoes. Another way to eliminate squeaking orthotics is to rub candle wax on the outer edges of the orthotics or place masking tape on the areas where the plastic orthoses contacts the shoe sole and the sides of the shoe upper."
